In a landscape saturated with secure messaging applications, the question arises: is there a genuine need for another? The answer largely depends on how one defines security and whom they aim to protect their communications from.

Wylie was engineered to enable users to maintain the privacy of their messaging activities against what can be described as “close proximity” threats—that is, individuals who have access to or can gain access to your device.

Conceptually, Wylie can be likened to possessing your own Enigma machine; inputting a message results in an encoded output that appears as nonsensical gibberish. This means that even if someone intercepts your messages, deciphering their contents becomes infeasible.

Rather than employing complex cryptographic ciphers, Wylie opts for a more engaging approach—utilizing riddles as the core method of encryption. These riddles serve as the “secret component” needed to decode messages and are available in various forms. Users can opt for automatic riddle creation, craft their own, or authenticate themselves via biometrics such as TouchID.

To enhance user engagement, Wylie does not generate mere gibberish. Instead, it offers Faux Messages—realistic-looking messages intended to mislead or entertain prying eyes. A curated selection of faux conversation scenarios including school, work, and sports is also available.

The app’s privacy protection extends beyond text messages to include images, ensuring comprehensive confidentiality of shared media.

Recognizing that sometimes it's not just the message content but also the sender’s identity that warrants protection, Wylie features a Pseudo Profile option. This allows users to create aliases for specific contacts, further safeguarding their anonymity.

Additionally, Wylie facilitates the creation of in-app-only contacts—contacts that remain exclusive to the application itself, preventing any cross-application association.

With Wylie, there's no need to disable notifications, delete messages post-conversation, or set self-destruct timers. Users can communicate with confidence, knowing their privacy is duly protected.
